The Ancient Oak — Moon Jar
A one-of-a-kind sculptural moon jar inspired by the ancient oaks and tangled woodland surrounding my Sussex studio.
Hand-modelled oak leaves, acorns and woodland forms tumble organically from the rim, gradually disappearing into the softly rounded body of the vessel. Each element has been individually formed and applied by hand, allowing the composition to develop intuitively rather than following a repeated pattern.
A softly aged ivory glaze settles into every crease and impression, while delicate crazing and subtle earthy markings give the surface a timeworn quality — as though the piece has been shaped as much by nature as by hand.
The irregular rim and intentionally imperfect surface celebrate the marks of making and the unpredictability of the firing process.
Handmade in my Sussex studio, The Ancient Oak is entirely unique.
