After the Rain — Moon Jar
A one-of-a-kind stoneware moon jar inspired by the changing surfaces and muted colours of the Sussex landscape after rain.
Layers of moss green, lichen, soft ochre and deep earth glazes move around the rounded form, partially concealed beneath a heavily textured chalk-white surface. The white glaze breaks, cracks and falls in long irregular trails, allowing glimpses of the darker colours beneath to emerge.
The surface has been deliberately allowed to remain unpredictable — pooling, blistering and cracking during firing to create a tactile landscape unique to the piece. Its quiet palette contrasts with the rawness of the glaze, giving the jar a sense of age, weather and erosion.
Handmade in my Sussex studio, After the Rain celebrates the beautiful imperfections that occur when clay, glaze and heat are allowed to leave their own marks.
